Biography
Sima Saadi (she/her) was the inaugural recipient of the Bruce Postdoctoral Fellowship at 91滴滴 from 2023 to 2025. Working under the supervision of Dr. Carolyn Johns in the Department of Politics and Public Administration, her research focused on Canadian freshwater policy, water governance and the use of open water data to support evidence-based policy development.
During her fellowship, Sima conducted statistical and geospatial analyses of Ontario鈥檚 Permit to Take Water and Reported Water Use datasets. Her research examined water-permitting trends from 1960 to 2022, groundwater reliance, regional and sectoral patterns of water use, and the policy implications of Ontario鈥檚 water-permitting system. She also worked with Great Lakes DataStream water-quality data and explored the connections between smart cities, climate change and urban water management.
Sima holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Burgundy in France, a Master鈥檚 degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Tehran, and a Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Human Planning. Her broader research interests include environmental sustainability, freshwater governance, sensitive ecosystems, geospatial analysis and sustainable urban development.
